FAITH
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We love the way that the team from Holy Trinity Brompton have explained why Jesus' life and teaching is so significant.
The following video is from part of the Alpha course which we run once a year, but to give you a taste, feel free to watch it and have a look at the Alpha website for more information.
WHY JESUS?
COURSES
For anyone that is new to the church, or for people wanting to grow in their faith, signing up to do one of our courses is a great way to meet people and find out what we believe and why.
We have teamed up with two great groups of Christians whose material is really helpful:
ALPHA FILM SERIES
For anyone exploring Christianity or perhaps new to the church, we would encourage you to come along to Alpha. This course runs for about 10 weeks, includes a free meal and is a great time to chat about faith and the important things in life while discovering a Christian perspective. Find out about the Alpha course in the video below:
JESUS MINISTRY
For people wanting to grow in the way they experience God and do the kind of things that Jesus did, there is a course we run from time to time called Jesus Ministry. If you are interested or would like more details please contact the church office.
Jesus Ministry is a name given to a way of thinking and living out the teaching of Jesus that practically enables us to live supernatural lives and operate in the supernatural power and revelation of the Kingdom of God.
CORE BELIEFS
Chiltern church is an independent church but that doesn't mean we have no connection with other larger Christian groups. We are members of the Evangelical Alliance which represents 4000 churches in the UK from many denominations, and we hold to their basis of faith (which is listed below).
EA STATEMENT OF FAITH
OUR BASIS OF FAITH
-
The one true God who lives eternally in three persons — the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
-
The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
-
The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God— fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.
-
The dignity of all people, made male and female in God's image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.
-
The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ — born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
-
The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
-
The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
-
The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
-
The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.
-
The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers — given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit's gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.
-
The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.
